High street vs high end: NYX + Huda

I am definitely a classic stick lipstick and liner kinda girl, but every now and then I do like to experiment with a liquid lippie (usually on the rare occasion that I wear makeup to work so that I don't need to worry about re-applying.) I have definitely found some formulas now that I really do like, and whereas price isn't always so much of an issue, I honestly think that when it comes to liquid lipsticks - expensive is better.
Here, I will be comparing the NYX Lingerie liquid lipstick in the shade 'Bedtime Flirt' against the Huda Beauty Liquid Matte in 'Bombshell' which are the two most similar nudes I have (in liquid form.) The NYX Lingerie range lipsticks are priced at £8.50 each compared to Huda's which are £18.
Packaging
NYX: I think this is a really cute design on this tube. The packaging is actually what originally drew me into the Lingerie collection and made me want it. I'm not entirely sure why because it is nothing really special, I think i just like the font that lingerie is written in. One thing I am not too keen on is that fact that the reverse side (sorry, I haven't pictured) is covered in a long list of the ingredients, like all over it. I just think it lowers the overall look. Another thing I do not like - and I am now just being really picky - is that little clear break in the black between the lid and the tube. It would just help it to look more sleek if it was solid black.
Huda: I love this tube. It looks so elegant and sleek as it has a sort of frosted over look on it. It is really plain and simple with just her logo on it, which I like as the NYX one feels really cluttered. I also like the fact that the tube is squared with slightly curved corners and just looks and feels really smooth.
Application
NYX: I really, really dislike the wand on this one. It is very long, flat and not at all fluffy making it difficult to get a nice shape around the edges of your lips using just this wand alone. It does however feel really nice and creamy (possibly too creamy as it is bordering on the thick side) when you put it on and goes smoothly onto the skin. This does also dry down fairly quickly which is handy if you are in a rush. As the brush is quite large, there is enough product to apply to your whole lips with just one dip.
Huda: The wand on this lipstick is perfect - small, rounded and fluffy making application a breeze. It is a really thin formula and really just glides along the lips. When I say thin though, do not think that it lacks in colour! This lippie is highly pigmented and one dip into the tube is more than enough for your whole lips! The only downside that I would say there is, is that this does take a few minutes to completely dry down.
Feeling
NYX: I really do not like the feeling of this one. It feels super sticky and heavy on the lips even once it has completely dried down. You can't rub your lips together as they will just stick and wouldn't be able to slide against each other anyway. You can really feel like you have this one whilst wearing it, and I could feel like it was starting to crack or crumble.
Huda: This feels amazing on the lips. It isn't sticky - well.. you wouldn't be able to rub your lips together completely, but I think that is pretty standard with even the best liquid lipstick. You literally can't even tell that you have this on. I had to keep checking that it was still in place because numerous times it just felt like it wasn't even there any more - and it totally was!
Look
NYX: Bedtime Flirt is described as a red-toned pink on the NYX website, although it really is much more of a mauvey-brown. The colour does translate well from what is in the tube to what you end up with on your lips - there's nothing worse than when a lipstick looks completely different on than it does in the tube! This does however come out looking quite patchy and streaky. Although it is fairly pigmented, I feel like you need to layer it up in order to get an even coverage all over the lips which is something that I HATE doing with liquid lipstick as it can very easily feel very thick and cakey.
Huda: For sale, this is described as a subtle pink nude. To be fair, my swatches have for some reason come up very dark, it does look much lighter than this on the lips, but still more orangey than pink. This is a really flattering shade. I feel like the colour has not translated too well so I will have to try to do some lip swatches in the near future so keep tuned! As you can see from my swatches below, the lipstick is extremely pigmented, this was not even a whole wand-ful, i removed about half and applied this very thin layer.

Longevity
NYX: These lipsticks absolutely cling to everything. They are a nightmare to take off, which is good while you are wearing them but not so fun for when it is makeup removal time and you are vigorously rubbing your lips to remove this sticky substance! These do stay on well, but as I am not a huge fan due to the sticky-ness I have not kept these on for very long, but it stayed in place just fine for the time that I did have it on!
Huda: This lasted for aaaages! I wore it to work the other day so applied it at around 1pm and it was still very much in place at 7pm, so a good 6 hours of it still looking perfect. After this sort of time, I had something to eat and drink, and it did start to come off in the middle of my lips but I think that this is pretty good going!
Overall, although you can find the odd drugstore liquid lipstick gem (like the NYX matte lip cream which I love), I am a firm believer that with this sort of product that the more you pay the more you get. When liquid lipsticks are made cheaply they just don't have the pigment in them, meaning you need to build them up leaving your lips feeling caked in makeup!
