My favourite foundation brush

In this post, i will be comparing three buffing foundation brushes that i have been using. Some of them i absolutely love, and others not so much. First things first; the brushes. So, the buffing brushes that I have been using are the Urban Decay's Optical blurring brush, Charlotte Tilbury's Magic Complexion Brush and the Guerlain The Foundation Brush.

So, up first will be the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Complexion Brush. Obviously, I know Charlotte Tilbury prices are pretty high, however I was not quite expecting this brush to cost £45 which I would say is above average price for any foundation brush, so needless to say, I was expecting great things. I purchased this one in store as I like to know what brushes feel like before I buy them and when i tried it out on my hand it felt amazing - super soft and dense. The guy who was working in there also highly recommended the brush too, saying that it blends amazingly.
However, when I went to use this brush for the first time, I was highly disappointed. It felt just as it did in the shop - amazingly soft and i thought it was going to be a dream to work with. But as I was applying my foundation the bristles were coming out and going EVERYWHERE all over my face. I thought that it was just a few loose bristles coming out to start with so I carried on, but they just kept on coming out. Needless to say, I was extremely frustrated as I then had to try to remove the bristles from my face without ruining the foundation I had just applied.

Despite the hair-loss from the brush, it did blend the foundation in nicely and left a smooth finish, it's just that you don't want to have to remove hairs from your face after you have applied your makeup! Other than this, I LOVE the colour of this brush. It is described as 'Rose Gold & Crimson' and is the prettiest burgundy colour handle and a lovely shade of Rose gold.

Also, Charlotte Tilbury's customer service is second to none! I sent them an email explaining my issues, and they almost immediately responded to me, and once I had showed them proof of purchase for the brush they gave me online credit for the full amount and I was able to choose something that I now really love! (I went for the Bar of Gold as I've wanted it for aaages and the Pillowtalk lipstick.) I haven't ever had a problem with any of her actual makeup products, but seeing as this was the first brush I have tried, I don't think that I will be buying brushes from her again any time soon!
Up next is the Urban Decay Optical Blurring brush priced at £23 (although I don't think that they sell this one any longer as it is the older version, and has been replaced with the new 'Pro' version, priced at £24.) I think that this brush is very reasonably priced considering that the average foundation brush will cost you anything from £20-£35. I am going to jump straight in and say that this brush is AMAZING! I love it so much. It blends your foundation like a dream giving you flawless looking skin. It works with any foundation, but I do find that it works best with an Urban Decay foundation, again I have the older version - the naked liquid makeup rather than the All nighter foundation (which I reaaalllyy need to try as I've heard so many good reviews about it.) I like that Urban Decay label their brushes on the handle so you know which is which.

Because the bristles are synthetic, the product does not absorb into them so you use much less product. You really do need a tiny amount of foundation and it goes such a long way when using this brush. This is a sturdy feeling brush. The handle is solid and has a good weight to it, and you don't feel as though it is going to snap in half at any time. It also looks very sleek and elegant, and overall i just love everything about this brush. It was my go-to foundation brush every day until I discovered the Mac oval brush which I also love and that took over for a while.

I am not sure what the differences between the new Pro Optical brush and the old one are other than the looks, but maybe that will be next on my brush wish-list to try out as i loooove this one!
Finally, we come onto the Guerlain The Foundation Brush. O M G - is this not the prettiest foundation brush you have EVER seen?! I am in love with the look of this brush, its so pretty and pink:

The colour of the bristles even match the handle, and the rose gold is to die for. Okay, enough ranting about the looks of this one. This brush isn't just about the looks. For £33 it is on the higher end of the scale but it does a lovely job. I would say, not quite as good as the Urban Decay brush but it still blends your foundation in for a lovely smooth skin perfecting finish. I do have to buff it in quite a lot before I achieve the result that I want, slightly more than some other brushes I would say. It is definitely the most densely packed in bristles of the three brushes.

It is also a nice size. I hate a huge foundation brush. The majority of the time I have already done my eyebrows and eyeshadow and I get scared that I am going to cover them in foundation if the brush is too big! This is slightly on the larger side of what I do normally go for, but only just - I can still do what I want with it. I do think that this brush works better with the Guerlain foundation (maybe its just in my head, or maybe I should have given the Charlotte Tilbury brush a try with her foundation), but it still works just fine with others too.
